In April 2013, we received an interesting update from Sister Joanne concerning Freddy, the middle aged young boy in 4th grade, who is supported by our community. Another update was received regarding Evans (high school - final year) and Duncan (pre-school).
Here's Freddy!
And here's a note from Freddy, now in 4th Grade.
Here's the update by Sister Joanne on Evans:
Evans was here today on his way back to school. Attached is a letter and a photo. He had quite a harrowing experience in January when he was kidnapped briefly....thank God they left him in a hidden away banana plantation when they saw he didn't have much to steal. The trick thieves play these days is to use some kind of a chemical that puts you to sleep. They saw him waiting to get a bus back to school and offered him a ride. He accepted and after they got moving, they sprayed this stuff in the vehicle. He wasn't badly hurt, although bleeding from the mouth and nose. They fixed him up at the hospital and the deputy headmaster was called from the school to come and get him. He was just badly shaken.
I told him today as he was returning to school, under no circumstances accept a ride from anybody you don't know.
This is a big year for him as it's his Senior year (which we call Form 4 here.) He is very determined to be a teacher. I was suggesting to him some other options, but he is really insistent he wants to teach. He has to pull his marks up this year if he wants to do that.
And this is the letter written by Evans to our community:
In late April, we received the following photos of little Duncan, showing how he has grown! He is also shown with his grandmother, and taking the time to draw on paper!
Activities for the boys at Timau Mission include making charcoal balls for cooking dinner. It takes four balls to cook a meal in the evening.

Wonderful to follow the progress of these sponsored boys ...
